Dear Wilmore-Davis Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! Wilmore-Davis Elementary has a long standing tradition of providing highly qualified and effective teachers and staff members, in every classroom. Our staff is excited to return to work to serve the community of learners and family members that we feel grateful to know personally, and care about deeply. We pride ourselves on our ability to personally know each and every student, and their family members, as we develop relationships during home visits, family interviews, PTA community events, RISE meetings and other community building opportunities. We know that working collaboratively with family members ensures student success and builds the foundations that children need to become engaged and productive citizens in our 21st Century world.
We want to ensure that all students at Wilmore-Davis are well equipped with 21st Century learning skills. These skills include, but are not limited to: critical thinking and creativity, civic and global engagement, communication, self-directed learning and personal responsibility, as well as academic skills. Students will be using SMARTboards, Ipads, computers, software and applications to deepen their learning, understanding and effective use of the above skills. They will also be applying their learning in a variety of ways, through short-term tasks and longer projects; and we will help them recognize that the process of learning (and failing) can be as important as a final product. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in their larger community during our Service-Based Learning days which will occur on Early Release days; during these days, all students will be placed in small groups with other students from Kinder-6th grade and our learning will focus on civic engagement.
The Wilmore-Davis staff is committed to ensuring that every student receives high quality and rigorous instruction that meets the individualized academic and social/emotional needs of our students. Our staff will be participating in professional development, throughout the school year, to ensure that that they are using strategies and techniques that will support students with their academic and social/emotional growth. In order to observe, monitor and evaluate the teaching and learning that happens on a daily basis I will be spending the majority of my work day in classrooms; please remember this if you don’t find me in my office- I’m rarely there! Being in classrooms gives me the opportunity to provide real-time feedback to students and teachers as I interact with them on a regular basis.
To succeed with all of this, we MUST have your support! At Wilmore-Davis we believe that education is a triangle including students, parents/guardians and teachers. It is the student’s responsibility to come to
school prepared and that includes doing homework and reading every night. It is the parent’s responsibility to encourage their child to do their best and help them with their homework, and the teacher’s responsibility to provide the best instructional program possible to meet your child’s educational needs. I believe, as your principal, that community and parent involvement are also essential to achieving our school goals. I would like to personally invite you to be a part of our community of learners. Our first PTA meeting is September 21st from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Please plan on attending this meeting to learn more about our school and how you can support our students.
We are excited to welcome new staff members, new students & families, some new furry friends (more details forthcoming) and some changes to our instructional programming. To learn about our changes and fully understand your child’s academic day, we invite you to attend our first RISE meeting, on September 12th and/or 14th. RISE meetings will give families the opportunity to meet with classroom teachers and staff members, 3 times a year, in a group setting; during the RISE meeting you will be presented with grade level
Our Mission: To provide a quality education that prepares all children for a successful future.

data, data about your child, ideas to expand and support learning at home and the opportunity to meet the parents of the children that your child is with all year long. We will also have 1:1 conferences, in February, to inform you about your child’s academic and social-emotional growth, during the school year, but waiting until September to find this information is far too late! That’s why we have increased our face to face time with families and added in RISE meetings.
I am eager to start my 17th year in Jeffco. Prior to coming to Wilmore-Davis I was the principal, for six years, at Pleasant View Elementary. Before that I was an Assistant Principal at two school and a social worker, for ten years, at Lumberg Elementary School. During my childhood I lived in 10 different states and moved almost every year that I was in school. I graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in Ft.Collins, received my Bachelors degree from University of Colorado at Denver, my Masters degree from New York University and my Principal certification from the University of Denver. I am married to Andrew and have a 12 year old daughter named Sienna and eight year old twins named Jason and Brianne.
I feel truly fortunate to be your principal this year. Our staff realizes that you have high expectations of us and we appreciate the trust you put in us while we educate your child.
Lastly, I have had the good fortune to meet with numerous families over the last few weeks. If you would like to meet with me, at school or at your home (kids LOVE to show off their rooms and pets!) please call the office and schedule a meeting. I look forward to working with all of you and can’t wait to share in the success of your child’s growth during this school year.
